Well, here we are again with a New Season full of hopes, dreams and expectations in our centenary year; no doubt we will go through many varied emotions during the season.
I am sure that many of you will have heard the following words read at a wedding about the qualities of Love listed in the Bible:
“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonour others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Love never fails.”
When I try to live by these words my life seems to feel better and, more importantly, the people around me are happier as I treat them well.
So, here we go: Love is patient or, as someone once said, replace the word ‘love’ with your name. So, Baz is patient! Well, I wish that were true. I can get very frustrated if things are not going at the speed I want. My wife Linda will agree with this.
It’s ironic that my first article this season is on patience as I have been waiting to do a charity Skydive for the last 4 weeks due to 2 cancellations, one through a clerical error and one due to bad weather. So hopefully as you read this I will have completed the skydive the morning of today’s game. My patience has definitely been tested.
As P.J Tucker said:
“No one wants to be patient. No one wants to wait for anything. They want it right now – that instant gratification.”
This season I am sure your patience will be tested but please try and be patient with the Coaches, backroom staff and players as they continue to build on their pre-season training and relationship-building. When things don’t go the way that they have planned we can be frustrated or patient, experiencing more peace and lower blood pressure. Someone once said:
“Results happen over time. Work hard, stay consistent and be patient.”
All the staff have been doing during pre-season and are doing continually, let’s try and follow their example.
Enjoy the game and season.
