I don’t think that being kind is hard to do. It doesn’t have to cost anything or even take a lot of time, but it can make a world of difference to somebody’s day. I have been driving a car for a good few years now. Yet, I still get a feeling of warm gratitude when somebody goes out of their way to give way to me, making my drive that little bit easier. I feel the same way when someone holds the door open for me, gives me a compliment, makes me a drink, or simply says good morning and goodbye.
I get the same lovely feeling if I do these things for others too. Being kind can also make us feel good about ourselves. Mentalhealth.org says that:
“There is some evidence to suggest that being aware of our own acts of kindness, and the things we are grateful for, can increase feelings of happiness, optimism and satisfaction. Doing good may help you to have a more optimistic and positive outlook about your own circumstances.”
So, being kind is simply a win win!
Kindness has inspired this month’s Calmly Create session. This month, the wellbeing focus is on how giving somebody a homemade gift can be good for the recipient and the giver. We will be painting wooden Easter inspired wreaths.
Typically, we would plan an Easter activity closer to the holiday, but I thought it would be lovely to have the wreaths on display in the lead-up to Easter. I will encourage members of the group to give their Easter wreath to somebody else, to help brighten both their day and the recipient’s day.
I believe kindness evokes a cosy warm feeling that is unique – I can’t get enough! Next time you are kind or somebody is kind to you, notice how it makes you feel and you will see what I mean.
Happy creating!
